Clinics & ServicesANTENATAL CARE Initial appointment should be with a GP in ordinary surgery. Subsequent care will be undertaken in conjunction with the community midwife. Our community midwife holds her clinic on a Wednesday morning. Baby changing facilities are in the upstairs toilet. CERVICAL SMEARS Cervical smears are recommended for all women between the ages of 25 and 65 as part of the cancer prevention programme. 3 yearly smears for 25-50 year olds. 5 yearly smears for over 50 year olds. Please make an appointment with the nurse midway between periods. You will get a call letter from the screening programme. You will be given information about the results system at the time of your appointment. If the result is normal you will get a letter informing you of this. If your result is mildly abnormal or unsuitable for analysis and the test merely needs repeating after an interval we will write and tell you. If the result is such that further investigation at the hospital is required you will be contacted directly by the hospital. CHRONIC DISEASE MANAGEMENT Patients with Heart disease, diabetes, asthma, stroke, high blood pressure etc. Annual assessment is recommended. The practice nurses are highly trained to undertake these assessments. We will try to organise these appointments in the month of your birthday. FAMILY PLANNING Help on all aspects of contraception is available from the doctors and nurses. If you need a prescription for a new method you should see one of the doctors. We have a female GP who offers a coil fitting service. The practice nurses can see patients for repeat pill checks and prescriptions. If you think you might need emergency contraception advice do not hesitate to ask. Emergency contraception is also available free of charge at the NHS Walk-in Centre (for over 16s) and at Family Planning. MINOR SURGERY The doctors are able to carry out a number of minor surgery procedures under local anaesthetic where appropriate. Please make an appointment if you have a problem that you think might be suitable. |
